Cell cycle, mutations that cause changes in signal molecules, effects on receptor, signal switches, Tumor
Suppression genes, modulation of cell cycle in cancer. Different forms of cancers.
UNIT 2
PRINCIPLES OF CARCINOGENESIS
9 Hrs.
Principles of Carcinogenesis I - Chemical Carcinogenesis, Metabolism of Carcinogenesis,
Natural History of Carcinogenesis, Targets of Chemical Carcinogenesis. Principles of
Carcinogenesis II Principles of Physical Carcinogenesis, X - Ray radiation - mechanism of
radiation Carcinogenesis.
UNIT 3
MOLECULAR CELL BIOLOGY OF CANCER
9 Hrs.
Oncogenes, Identification of Oncogenes, Retroviruses and Oncogenes, detection of
Oncogenes, Growth Factor and Growth Factor receptors that are Oncogenes. Oncogenes /
Proto Oncogene activity. Growth factors related to transformations. Cancer pathways.
UNIT 4
PRINCIPLES OF CANCER METASTASIS
9 Hrs.
Clinical significances of invasion, heterogeneity of metastatic phenotype, Metastatic
cascade, Basement Membrane disruption, Three-step theory of Invasion, Proteinases and
tumour cell invasion.
UNIT 5
DETECTION OF CANCER AND CANCER THERAPY

Detection of Cancers, Prediction of aggressiveness of Cancer, Advances in Cancer
detection. Different forms of therapy, Chemotherapy, radiation therapy, and Immuno therapy:
advantages and limitations. Challenges in cancer treatment. Case study of cancer Survivors.
