INTRODUCTION:
We are a forward-thinking, energetic GMS practice that is keen to augment their team with a
lively, like-minded, enthusiastic salaried GP. We have positions for the following:
a)
b)
3-session Salaried GP to replace Dr Hannah Dean who is relocating due to her
husband's career progression.
Maternity leave cover for 7 sessions Salaried GP (October 2008 - June 2009)
Sutton is a village of approximately 3000 people, six miles west of Ely, and 17 miles north of
Cambridge. Originally a fen farming village, it still retains much of its rural character, but the
population now also comprises a broader range of people, including many commuters to
Cambridge, Huntingdon and London. Our practice list is approximately 5755, some of whom
live in neighbouring villages. The surgery is based in attractive custom-built premises in
keeping with the rural setting, positioned in the centre of the village and helps create a calm,
efficient ambience. The surgery is fully computerised using EMIS and is paperlight.
We are part of the Cambridgeshire Primary Care Trust.
We have a very committed team who maintain the happy, relaxed friendly atmosphere in the
practice.
THE PARTNERSHIP:
There are two full-time partners, Dr Peter Bennett and Dr John McHugh. Each of the fulltime GPs work 8 sessions per week.
We also have two Salaried GPs; one working 7 sessions per week and the other 4 sessions
per week. We have one Retained GP – Dr Hannah Dean – who has been with the practice
for four years who unfortunately will be relocating due to her husband's career progression.
Dr Dean works 3 sessions per week.
All surgeries are run on an appointment basis, including the Open Surgery on a Monday
morning which we have changed to Open - booked. However we try to be as flexible as
possible and so we keep a proportion of appointments for every session free until the actual
day: this allows us to achieve the Government Access targets.
We do not have personalised lists: we find that patients prefer the flexibility of arranging to
see whom they choose.
We offer the full range of GMS services and are involve in Locality Practice-based
Commissioning. Good QOF achievements were attained this year and we have always
achieved excellent attainment levels with regards to cervical screening and childhood
immunizations. Our enhanced services include Minor Surgery, IUCDs, Implanon, Near
Patient Testing for drug monitoring and anticoagulation monitoring. All partners participate
in Child Health Surveillance. Regular audit and health promotion is undertaken. The
partners are involved with covering the Princess of Wales Hospital in-patients as Hospital
Practitioners. This is shared with a practice in Ely.
We have recently set up a regular Diabetic Clinic, and this is proving to be very successful.
We are lucky to have the additional services of a Diabetic Specialist Nurse, Helen Hollern, to
support the team.
Antenatal care is provided by a community midwife attached to the practice.
The Practice Nurse runs immunisation clinics every week on a Friday morning.
NURSES:
We have 2 experienced practice nurses, one of whom has been with the surgery for many
years. We are actively recruiting for a 3rd practice nurse at present. Between the two
current practice nurses they run the regular diabetic, respiratory, family planning clinics and
childhood immunization clinics. We hope to increase the role of nurse-led chronic disease
management clinics in the future. The nurses are trained in taking smears and breast
awareness. They also assist with triage of emergency appointments and visits in order to
make more efficient use of our surgeries.
DISPENSING:
We are a part-dispensing practice currently dispensing to about 2000 patients in the outlying
villages as there is a dispensing pharmacy in the village.
