1. Geology-the study of the earth

2. Geologist-a person who studies the
earth
14. Landform-a feature on the surface of
Earth, such as a valley, mountain range,
plain, or plateau
3. Plateau-a large, elevated area of
relatively flat land
4. Mountain-a natural elevation of the
earth’s surface of considerable mass
5. Mountain range-a group of mountains
with similar characteristics
6. Hill-a natural elevation of the earth’s
surface; smaller than a mountain
7. Foothills-hills that are at the base of a
mountain range
8. Volcano-an opening in the earth’s crust
in which molten lava, gasses and ash are
ejected
9. Crust-the hard outer layer of the earth
10. Caldera-a large crater formed by
volcanic activity
11. Lava-molten rock that reaches the
earth’s surface through a volcano or fissure

valleys or over continents
13. Erosion-The breakdown and removal
of soil and rock by water, wind, glaciers
25. Iceberg-a chunk of glacier that breaks
off into the sea
