Labeling: Study the picture of the cell factory. Label each of the following parts of
the above with the organelle that most closely does the same job as each department in
the factory.

Comparison: Think of a cell as a factory. Certain parts of a factory do certain
things, just as certain parts of a cell do certain things. Use the job in the factory
description, then decide which organelle does the same job in the cell, and fill in the
organelle’s function in the last column.

The assembly line
Endoplasmic reticulum
A series of tubes through
which proteins are
transported
Boss or Chief executive

The entrance and exit
door of the factory
The workers on the
assembly line (HINT:
some are very attached
to their work…)
Finishing and packing

UPS)

Maintenance crew (HINT:
responsible for breaking
used factory parts down)
The floor of the factory
where all the factory
parts are located
The cell theory: Pure and simple: List the three parts of the cell theory

Orchids are my favorite flowers, I liked to look at them under the microscope, and, gasp, to my
surprise, I discovered the nucleus!
______________________________________________________________________
My friends never wanted to go on walks with me, probably because of my strange hobby of
collecting dead animals. I became much more popular when I concluded, based on my research,
that all animals are made of cells.
______________________________________________________________________
I unfortunately was not popular with the ladies due to my unique look, but this kept my nights free
to work in my lab observing cork using my new microscope with a light. I am credited with giving
cell their name. Apparently, looks aren’t everything!
______________________________________________________________________
Despite my long curly hair, I was not as popular as you may have thought. Perhaps it had to do
with my favorite party game where I would take peoples pond water, and using one of the first
microscopes, I would show off the tiny organisms in that drop of pond water.
I was fascinated by plants, and when I became lucky enough to get a microscope, I looked at
every plant I could get my hands on under the microscope. To my surprise, every plant I looked at
was made of cells. I concluded that all plants were made of cells… and no one has proved me
wrong since. Ha, Ha!
I am a simple man, with a very long beard. I hypothesized that living cells must come from other
living cells.
Venn Diagram: In the animal cell circle, list the structures that JUST AN ANIMAL CELL HAS. In the plant cell circle,
list the structures that JUST A PLANT CELL HAS. Where the circles overlap, list the structures that BOTH THE ANIMAL
AND PLANT CELL HAVE.
