Volcano Research Project
You will research a famous volcano on Earth & compare it to Olympus Mons on Mars. You will create a google
docs slide with the following information for both volcanoes.
 Name of Volcano
 Location: All of these do not apply to Olympus Mons.
-Country
-Degrees latitude and longitude
-Tectonic Plate
-Nearest city and city population
-Is it along the Ring of Fire?
 Type of Volcano:
-Composite, Cinder Cone, Shield, Lava Dome (and explain what this means!)
-Explosive or non-explosive eruptions
- What kind of lava? Explain.
-Approximate size (height, width)
-Active, Dormant, Extinct
 Formation: How did it form?
-convergent plate boundary (subduction zone) (which plates)
-divergent plate boundary (which plates)
-hot spot
 Eruptions: Give details!
-Last eruption
-Most destructive eruption
-Damages from eruption (causalities, volcanic ash, earthquakes, mudslides, floods, environmental
impact)
Compare/Contrast:
-Compare/contrast the two volcanoes with at least three similarities and three differences
 Pictures:
-Include 3 or more pictures of each.
 Interesting Facts
-Include 4 or more interesting facts about the volcano
 Resources
-Cite at least 3 resources on your last slide.
