Final Report from the abroad business trip

Raising finances: grant EEA and Norway
Purpose of the trip: Raise awareness of the Slovak public, students of our
school and Norwegian school in Koppang, about the importance of learning
falconry at school and its frequent application in adaptation to climate change.
Getting familiar with climate change in Norway and the impact of this change
on wildlife, especially the predators. Promotion of bilateral cooperation between
the Slovak Republic and Norway.

24.10. – Leaving Častá - 6.00 am, departure Schwechat Vienna, Austria - 10.20,
arrival Oslo, Norway - 12:45, arrival at the Slovak Embassy in Oslo at 15.00,
leaving the city of Oslo to Koppang at 18.00, arrival in the city of Koppang at
21.00
25.10. - Breakfast at 7.00, going to school at 8.00 in Koppang, greeting Mrs.
Headmaster of Koppang school, teachers and pupils at 8:30, presentation of
primary school pupils from ZŠ Častá at 9:40, at 11:45 common lunch, touring
the school and viewing the methods of teaching and touring the kindergarten at
12.45, visiting municipal gymnasium, dance studio, theater at 15.00, dinner at
18.00
26.10. - Breakfast at 7:30, at 8:50 departure to Evestand, visiting Hedmark
University, the Faculty of Applied Ecology and Agricultural Sciences at 9.30;
common lunch at 11:45, departure by bus at 14.00, dinner at 18.00
27.10. - Breakfast at 7:00, departure by bus to Elverum, forest museum at 8:00,
tour at 10:00, 11:30 common lunch, lecture and tour of the museum at 12.30 am,
departure to Koppang at 14:00, dinner at 18:00
28.10. - Departure from Koppang at 9:00, arrival in Oslo at 11.00, departure
from Oslo to Vienna at 13:55, arrival to Vienna at 16:20, departure from Vienna
by car at 17.00, arrival to Častá at 18:30.
Course of the abroad business trip
24.10. - At 6:00 in the morning we met the children and their parents in front of
the school in Častá. The departure was 6:15 by three cars to the airport
Schwechat Vienna in Austria. Departure was scheduled for 10:20. We had about
ten minutes delay. We arrived in Oslo at 12.45. At the airport a nice bus from
company Unibusstur was waiting for us. At 15.00 we left for the Slovak
embassy in Oslo. Mr. Ambassador, František Kašický, welcomed us and
prepared us for a presentation about the work of the Ambassador and the
Consul, but also about the history and attractions in Norway. After the
presentation, examination and small snacks we went for a small tour of Oslo.
We visited the Peninsula Bygdoy, which is located just a few minutes from the
city center of Oslo. There is a summer house of Norwegian royal family. There
are also permanent addresses of many of the most interesting museums:
Norwegian Folk Museum, The Viking Ship Museum, the Kon-Tili Museum,
Fram Museum – The Polar Ship Fram and Norwegian Maritime Museum. The
next stop on our journey was Holmenkollen National Arena. It is a ski resort
with a large ski jumping hill, tracks and a shooting range for biathlon, crosscountry skiing and biathlon stadium. Inside the ski jump is the world’s oldest ski
museum, with 4000 years of skiing history on display. It had previously hosted
the 1952 Winter Olympics. Our last stop was The Vigeland park, named after
the sculptor Gustav Vigeland (1869 - 1943). He created all the statues and
statuaries, containing more than 600 pieces. One of the park's most popular
statues, Angry Boy (Sinnataggen), is placed here. After the exhibition of the park
we said goodbye to Mr. Ambassador and we moved by bus to Koppang. We
arrived there at 21.00. In the front of the hotel there was waiting and welcomed
us Mrs. Headmaster of Koppang school and Adam Bielek, Slovak who lives in
Koppang.
25.10. - We had breakfast in the morning at 7.00. After breakfast at 8:00,
together with Mrs. Headmaster Hilde Solvang we went to school in Koppang.
After arriving at school, we were welcomed and acquainted with staff and
children from the school parliament. At 9.00 pupils from Koppang school
prepared a warm welcome. They sang the school anthem. Our students were not
left in shame and sang the Slovak anthem. Our pupil from 8th grade, Patrik
Petráš, played the violin. We gave Mrs. Headmaster, Hilde Solvang, gifts that
we brought with us, Modra ceramics, shirt of our expedition, dolls made of
husk of corns named Šúpolienky and chocolates with our school logo. At 9:40
Mrs. Headmaster, Adriana Cíferská, opened the presentation of primary school
in Častá about Slovakia and the education system in Slovakia. We presented
what falconry is, how we teach falconry in our school and we introduced some
more predators. After the presentation we prepared a little quiz and Norwegian
children got a reward - feathers from our birds of prey. At 11:45 we had lunch
together. After lunch we went on a tour of the school premises, the premises of
the kindergarten, and we saw teaching in progress. Pupils from 8th grade went
to play football with pupils form Koppang from 6th and 7th grade and 4th grade
students from Častá went on a tour of the premises of the municipal gymnasium,
dance studio and theater. We had dinner at 18.00.
26.10. – We had breakfast at 7.30. We left Koppang for the city of Evenstad at
8.50 by public transport - bus, together with pupils of 5th and 6th grade school
in Koppang. In the city we visited the Faculty of Hedmark University and at
9.30 we had a presentation by prof. Kristin Evensen Gangås and Slavomíra
Janda about wild predators in Norway and Slovakia. We had lunch together at
11.45. After lunch we went to see two female elks belonging to the campus. We
left the university by bus at 14.00. We had dinner at 18.00 and after dinner we
went to visit local youth clubs.
27.10. - We had breakfast at 7.00. At 8.00 we left by bus for the town Elverum,
Norwegian Forest Museum, which shows the history and importance of forest
in the life of northern residents. We were divided into two mixed groups. In the
wood at 10.00 we had a lecture about the history of hunting and methods of
hunting bears and lynx. Then we had lunch together at 11.30, we grilled hot
pancakes - a traditional Norwegian meal. At 12:30 we had a lecture about birds
and about hunting ducks in Norway and we went to visit the museum. We left
the museum for Koppang at 14.00. We had dinner at 18.00. After dinner some of
our teacher together with pupils from 8th grade went to annual concert into a
local hall.
28.10. - Breakfast was at 7.30. We left the hotel in Koppang at 9.00. We arrived
at the airport in Oslo at 11.00. We had lunch at the airport. Departure from the
city Oslo to Vienna was about 13:55. At 16:20 we arrived in Vienna and in
Častá at 18.30.
Result of the project:
- closer knowledge of country
- getting familiar with climate change in Norway and its effect on animals,
especially predators
- getting familiar with the education system in Norway
- improving language and presentation skills of our students and teachers
- motivation for learning a foreign language
- establishing future partnership with a school in Koppang
- increasing attractiveness of our schools due to cooperation with schools in
Norway
- motivation based on knowledge of another culture
- working as a team consisting of teachers and pupils
