

Always know the location of "mains" box in your home.
Please check the "mains" box to see if the main power switch (MCB) has tripped. The MCB trips
in case of overload or wiring fault condition. Please turn off some of the appliances which are in
use immediately. Thereafter switch the MCB back to ON Position.
If the MCB already shows ON position, then please check if the meter is showing “Reading”. If
yes, it means that supply from NDPL is ON but there is some problem with your internal wiring.
Call an electrician as soon as possible to fix the problem for you.
In case of No supply at Meter, please call NDPL Helpline (66404040) and register a complaint.

FAQs
1) Why do I face power failures?
There may be several reasons attributed to the same and are explained as below:

Power reaches to you from substation through cable/lines. At your end, the supply is fed
through cut-outs/ fuses installed in your house or in your building near your meter. The fuse
may blow due to short in the circuit or overloading of equipment leading to Power failure.

Further there could be problem on the line or on cable between substation and powerhouse
caused by disturbed weather conditions or third party damage (see illustration).

NDPL is a part of Northern regional power grid along with other utilities such BSES, MES, NDMC
etc. Any disturbance at Northern grid results into power shortage which is beyond the control of
NDPL. We take utmost care to avoid such disturbances and also try to restrict their duration and
effect in coordination with Transmission Company & Generation Company.

In order to ensure the improved and uninterrupted power supply to its consumers, NDPL
sometime takes the shutdown to ensure the better health of its equipments. You may view
shutdown schedule for your area by using following link:

2) What is a voltage dip?
As explained above, the voltage dip can also be caused by adverse weather conditions, tree falling
or third party damage. Usually in such cases, the consumer’s power supply will not be affected
however; individual users may experience a momentary dimming or fluctuations of their lights.
If the problem persists for a long period, you may register a complaint at our helpline by providing
your complete name, K.No., address and contact no..
3) How frequently do I need to follow up after reporting of power failure?
Once power failure has been reported there is no need to report again. Quickly NDPL Staff start
working on the reported problem. Although we make all possible efforts to restore all our
consumers, the restoration time may vary depending upon the nature of failure. You may ask the
Call Center to provide estimated time of restoration. Call Center will provide this information once
the problem is identified.
If your supply is not restored within few hours or your neighbour's supply has come back but yours
is still off, you may contact Call Center again to get the latest status on power restoration.
4) Can I switch ON all the appliances once the power is resumed?
As a precautionary measure, you may switch OFF the important equipments such as ACs,
Refrigerators, TV, PCs and Geysers etc. When the power is resumed, it is recommended to switch
ON the appliances one by one.
