Algebra: Multiplication and Division Properties
1. Identify the property shown by 5 × 1 = 5.
A number is multiplied by 1, and the product is that number. This is the Identity Property of
Multiplication.
2. Complete 4 × (8 × 2) = (4 × 8) ×
. Identify the property used.
A 2 completes the number sentence. The order in which the factors are grouped does not change the
product. This is the Associative Property of Multiplication.
3. There are 6 students and 6 musical instruments. How many instruments will each student get?
6÷6=1
A nonzero number divided by the same number is 1. So, each student will get 1 instrument.
