Visiting Lecture Report
During this academic year the visiting lecture scheme, as far as I m concerned, comprises
two stages. The first stage, that has already been accomplished was the visit rendered by
Sociology PhD candidate Ioana Bunescu in Constanta at the end of April. I asked her to
target the lecture to the last year students that are preparing their final dissertation but that
are quite confused when it comes to methodological aspects. I announced the visit using
posters and oral communication during my regular classes. Two thirds of the students
attended even though the semester was officially closed for them. Ioana told them in a
two hours lecture about the design of the Social Sciences project and the students asked a
lot of questions. They also asked for her contacts so that they can find further advice.
After the lecture itself, Ioana had discussions with many of them in an individual face to
face communication. One of the professors in the Journalism Department participated in
the meeting as well and she congratulated us for the event. I introduced Ioana to the vicedean and we hope that this would be the first step in building a long lasting academic
bridge.
The visiting lecture that I will make will take place after the 8th of May, as agreed with
Aleksandra and it will be in Krakow. It was supposed to take place earlier but I had the
exams for the position of teaching assistant (asistent) at the end of April, at the same time
Ioana came earlier and the program fit properly after all. I agreed with my Polish
colleague that I would deliver a lecture on the methodological aspects of the Journalistic
inquiry as compared to the Social Sciences one, touching on the specific focus in the two
fields as well as on some comparable methods like the observation, the interview, the
secondary sources, the documents.
