Course Content: Basic Electrical Engineering UNIT I 10-Lectures Electrical Circuit: DC circuits: Voltage and Current Sources, Mesh and Nodal Voltage Methods, Delta Star and Star Delta Conversion, Superposition Theorem, Thevenin’s and Norton’s Theorem, Maximum Power Transfer Theorem. UNIT II 12-Lectures A.C. Circuit: Single Phase and three phase A.C. Phasor Representation, Electrical Circuit Element’s R-L-C, Their physical origin based on electromagnetic and electrostatics R-L, R-C, R-L-C, series circuits, Sinusoidal steady state: power factor, active and reactive power, parallel and series parallel circuits, Delta and Star connections, line and phase quantities, single and three-phase power measurement. UNIT III 09-Lectures Electrical Machines: Transformers: Principle of operation, construction, B-H Characteristics of ferromagnetic materials, e.m.f. equation, voltage regulation, auto transformer and their construction. UNIT IV 07-Lectures D.C. Machines: Constructions, E.M.F. equation, method of excitation, speed torque characteristics of D.C. Motor (Shunt, Series and compound), Starters, Speed control UNIT V 06-Lectures Induction Motor: Construction and principle of operation, torque speed characteristics, starters for cage and wound rotor type induction motor, speed control of induction motor.
