HHS Biology - Meiosis Web Search
This Web Search will lead you through an initial understanding of Meiosis. Pay attention and
record as much information as you can. Let’s get to work…
Put in your earbuds and watch this short video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VlN7K1-9QB0
Watch and read about the stages of Mitosis and Meiosis side by side here and answer the
following questions on a separate piece of paper:
http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/body/how-cells-divide.html
1. Why would your sex cells (sperm and egg) need half the number of chromosomes as the
rest of your body?
2. What is meiosis?
3. What types of cells undergo meiosis?
4. How many cells are created at the end of meiosis?
5. Do the cells at the end of meiosis have a full set of chromosomes, half a set of
chromosomes or no chromosomes?
6. Are the cells at the end of meiosis genetically identical or are they genetically different?
7. Where do you notice differences between Mitosis and Meiosis? Name the stage and
what is occurring that is different. (Hint: there is more than 1)
B. Watch the video below and complete the t-chart on your separate paper:
