I. Classification (taxonomy)
- approximately 2 million different kinds of animals.
- 1/3 million types of plants
A) All organisms are put into groups on the basis of structural, chemical, and genetic similarities
- Domain, Kingdom, phylum, class, order, family, genus, species

The genus species (scientific name) of an organism is used to name an organism ex. Man
Cap. – Homo sapiens-lower case
Genus species (underline both)
Ex. Felis domesticus Ex. Turdis migratouius -

