Activity 1: Observe the slides of monocot and dicot stems. Take a picture of each and
label the xylem and phloem bundles. Also label each picture as a monocot or dicot.

4. In which region do the root hairs develop? What is their function?
5. Meristems are tissues that generate new dermal, vascular, and ground tissue in
plants throughout their lives. Identify the two meristems that produce growth in
thickness.
6. What type of plant tissue is wood, and what are its functions?
