Puzzle 3 – Patterns
Row 1 – This is a visual representation of Jack and the Beanstalk so any picture that comes
chronologically after Jack climbs the Beanstalk is correct.
Row 2 – This pattern is Roman Numerals increasing by 2 so the next in sequence should be ‘VIII’.
Row 3 – The treasure chest is rotating so the next one should be a picture of the back of the chest.
Row 4 –The pattern follows the first letter of each colour of the rainbow song – “Red & Yellow and
Pink and Green...” so the next letter should be ‘G’ for green.
Row 5 – The one is a little more complicated. The knight rotates 1 eighth of a circle anticlockwise.
The frame (dragons) rotates 1 quarter clockwise so the answer should look like this:
Row 6 – The pattern is 1 squared (1), 2 squared (4), 3 squared (9), 4 squared (16) – you can also
work this out by figuring out that the difference between each number goes up by 2.
Row 7 – Each picture represents a season – Spring, Summer, Autumn & Winter
