Society for the Psychological Study of Social Issues

The Society for the Psychological Study of Social Issues (SPSSI) is an independent organization established in 1936, on the basis of psychology and social science. The Society's headquarters are located in Washington, D.C. and is affiliated with the American Psychological Association as APA Division 9. It has approximately 3000 members consisting of psychologists, allied scientists and other social studies interests, who desire to research the psychological aspects of important social issues and actively influence public policy solutions.SPSSI has a long history of organizing psychologists' involvement in social issues within its own borders and around the globe. The society played a key role in the preparation of social science briefs in Brown v. Board of Education. It publishes several academic journals, including the quarterly Analyses of Social Issues and Public Policy and the triannual Journal of Social Issues.
