... but this approach was seldom if ever taken. So here is the dilemma: we do not want to exceed two gain stages and yet we want more gain. One solution has been to use at least one cascode stage in the mix. The cascode circuit has the very desirable attribute of realizing a gain in excess of the mu of ...

... Tube amplifiers are based primarily on two types of tubes – preamplifier tubes and power tubes. The tubes used in preamplifiers (12AX7, 12AU7, 12AT7, etc.) are smaller than the power tubes. These tubes amplify the signal from your instrument and shape the sound. They are inherently microphonic (mech ...

Please note prior to beginning construction that there are high(over 400 volts) DC and AC voltages present in the equipment you are about to work on, and in the right situation these voltages could injure or kill you if you contact them. Normally the worst you can encounter is a nasty shock, however ...

Beam-index tube

The beam-index tube is a color television cathode ray tube design, using phosphor stripes and active-feedback timing, rather than phosphor dots and a beam-shadowing mask as developed by RCA. Beam indexing offered much brighter pictures than shadow-mask CRTs, and used a single electron gun rather than three, making it easier to build and reducing power consumption.Philco led development of the beam-indexing concept in a series of developments they called the ""Apple"" CRT. In spite of lengthy development, they were never able to manufacture a cost-competitive indexing tube, and eventually abandoned the concept. The system was re-introduced as the Uniray in the 1970s. Improvements in electronics greatly reduced the cost of implementing beam indexing, which became cost competitive with conventional sets. Several Japanese companies used it for a variety of specialist purposes, the best-known being the Sony Indextron series. The system also saw some military use, due to its low sensitivity to magnetic interference.
