Optimal design of switched reluctance motors
Optimal design of switched reluctance motors

... Torque ripple is another frequently quoted problem with the switched reluctance motor. Indeed, it can be said that it produces torque by amplifying what is known as cogging torque—a parasitic “nuisance torque”—in other machines. At low speed it can be “controlled out” by shaping the current waveform ...

Tips for choosing high-accuracy linear positioning

... Trapezoidal commutation is less suitable for very precise scanning and constant-velocity applications. However, it is less expensive than sinusoidal commutation, so it is used extensively for high speed, point-to-point systems or on systems where motion smoothness will not affect processing. With si ...

... This system can achieve high torques at low output frequencies. For example, at a frequency of 0.5Hz, 150% of the rated torque is generated on the motor shaft. With open-loop control, the speed adjustment range is 1:120 (and 1:200 in the FR-A700 series, which is the successor to the FR-A500 series). ...

Stepper motor

A stepper motor or step motor or stepping motor is a brushless DC electric motor that divides a full rotation into a number of equal steps. The motor's position can then be commanded to move and hold at one of these steps without any feedback sensor (an open-loop controller), as long as the motor is carefully sized to the application in respect to torque and speed.Switched reluctance motors are very large stepping motors with a reduced pole count, and generally are closed-loop commutated.
