Aug 2010 - Pump Ed 101

... Last month we discussed the relationship between voltage and frequency and tried to make that somewhat complex three phase sine wave a bit more understandable. This month we will take a quick look at the load types that make up a typical AC circuit. There are three basic loads that occur in AC circu ...

... As can be seen, primary taps at 120-V and 208-V are available using terminals H2-H3 and H4 respectively. In low-power single-phase residential applications, 120-V is a common voltage level. This is typically obtained by splitting a 240-V winding. Alternatively, 120-V can be obtained from the line-to ...

Window Lift and Relay Based DC Motor Control

... This reference manual describes the design of a relay-driven DC motor controller using a Hall sensor for position feedback. The use case of this reference design is made to address automotive window lifts, but it can alternatively be used as a relay DC motor controller. The design exhibits the suita ...

... Root-Mean-Square V and I “RMS” stands for “root-mean-square” 1. square the quantity (gets rid of polarity) 2. average the squared values over time, 3. take the square root of the result. Stepper motor

A stepper motor or step motor or stepping motor is a brushless DC electric motor that divides a full rotation into a number of equal steps. The motor's position can then be commanded to move and hold at one of these steps without any feedback sensor (an open-loop controller), as long as the motor is carefully sized to the application in respect to torque and speed.Switched reluctance motors are very large stepping motors with a reduced pole count, and generally are closed-loop commutated.
