Inheritance of Retinal Degenerations
Inheritance of Retinal Degenerations

... 40 percent of families affected by RP, it is impossible to determine how the disease is inherited in that family. Nevertheless, to assess the risk of retinal degeneration occurring in other family members, it must be assumed that the disease is following one of the known inheritance patterns. Isolat ...

Thus, chitinases (EC 3.2.1.14) and β-1, 3-glucanases (EC 3.2.1.39), proteins secreted by Trichoderma spp., have been suggested as the key enzymes in the lysis of phytopathogenic fungal cell walls during mycoparasitic acti ...

Advances in genetics of IBD: the NOD2/CARD15 gene

... Despite numerous studies performed over several decades, the cause of IBD remains poorly understood. Inflammatory bowel disease is thought to result from an inappropriate and ongoing activation of the mucosal immune system driven by the presence of normal luminal flora. This aberrant response is mos ...

In order to understand how switching happens between the lysis and lysogeny states in the lambda phage, we focus on two regulatory genes CI and cro and a regulatory region OR called the right operator as shown in Fig 3. During the lysogeny phase CI is switched ON and cro is OFF. The operator OR is c ...

... The BCD5 and AtBRCA1 encoded proteins are related to both BRCA1 and BARD1 and may be derived from an ancient progenitor of both. AtBRCA1 is expressed in all organs tested and transcript levels are increased (up to 800-fold) by ionizing radiation (Lafarge and Montane, 2003). AtBRCA1 exhibits E3 ubiqu ...

Nutriepigenomics

Nutriepigenomics is the study of food nutrients and their effects on human health through epigenetic modifications. There is now considerable evidence that nutritional imbalances during gestation and lactation are linked to non-communicable diseases, such as obesity, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, hypertension, and cancer. If metabolic disturbances occur during critical time windows of development, the resulting epigenetic alterations can lead to permanent changes in tissue and organ structure or function and predispose individuals to disease.
