Slow Light - Duke Physics

There has been very rapid progress in the past few years in improving the bandwidth of slow light and in transitioning the technology to telecommunications wavelengths using fairly standard off-the-shelf components. Basics of Non-Linear Fiber Optics

It can very easily be noted that at any point in time, the non-linear effect should not become weaker compared to the dispersion. ...

Two-mode interference measurement for nanometer accuracy

... We demonstrate a laser ranging scheme that uses a high-frequency modulated beam to achieve subnanometer precision by the combined use of interferometric and time-of-flight measurements. Optical tweezers

Optical tweezers (originally called ""single-beam gradient force trap"") are scientific instruments that use a highly focused laser beam to provide an attractive or repulsive force (typically on the order of piconewtons), depending on the refractive index mismatch to physically hold and move microscopic dielectric objects similar to tweezers. Optical tweezers have been particularly successful in studying a variety of biological systems in recent years.
