Guided Wave Analysis of Hollow Optical Fiber for Mode
Guided Wave Analysis of Hollow Optical Fiber for Mode

... is only recent that the guided core modes have been identified in highly multimode HOFs [17], [18]. However, these multimode HOFs are not practical in device applications due to severe bending losses and modal interferences, which is detrimental to mode-coupling device applications. In mode-coupling ...

When macroscopic structures are shrunk to the nanoscale, their optical properties depart dramatically from the intuitive ray-optics picture. 1 Subwavelength structures on resonance can have scattering cross sections much larger than their geometrical sizes, 2,3 and the presence of multiple resonanc ...

... The computation of these coefficients can cause problems for certain combinations of the parameters (m1, m2, x, y) because of the diverging nature of some of the functions used (see e.g. Figures in the Appendix of the report Mätzler 2002b and the discussion in Appendix B of BH). Therefore three diff ...

Nonlinear optics

Nonlinear optics (NLO) is the branch of optics that describes the behavior of light in nonlinear media, that is, media in which the dielectric polarization P responds nonlinearly to the electric field E of the light. This nonlinearity is typically only observed at very high light intensities (values of the electric field comparable to interatomic electric fields, typically 108 V/m) such as those provided by lasers. Above the Schwinger limit, the vacuum itself is expected to become nonlinear. In nonlinear optics, the superposition principle no longer holds.Nonlinear optics remained unexplored until the discovery of Second harmonic generation shortly after demonstration of the first laser. (Peter Franken et al. at University of Michigan in 1961)
