... material, the electron-hole recombination process produces some photons in the IR or visible in a process called electroluminescence. An exposed semiconductor surface can then emit light. When the applied forward voltage on the diode of the LED drives the electrons and holes into the active region b ...

Measurement of the Speed of Light with a Pulsed Laser

... The apparatus used here replaces the persons used by Galileo with electronic circuits, which have much more rapid response times that can be much more precisely measured. The flash of light is created by a pulsed laser diode, a device very similar to a laser pointer, except this laser is switched on ...

Also set the scale on the meter-stick some distance away from the grating. This distance will be "L" and you can change it as it becomes convenient to do so in the expe ...

Recently it was found that geometric gauge fields due to Berry phase [3] effects may modify the EOM of particles [2,4] in a chiral medium, leading to important physical phenomena and applications [5–12]. Here “chiral” means that the time rev ...

... SUMMARY : An afocal two-element holographic imaging system is presented. This system can be used to work in white light. The holographic optical elements (holographic lenses) are made as thick phase holograms on silver halide sensitized gelatin (SHSG) and they present a maximum diffraction efficienc ...

Ultrafast laser spectroscopy

Ultrafast laser spectroscopy is a spectroscopic technique that uses ultrashort pulse lasers for the study of dynamics on extremely short time scales (attoseconds to nanoseconds). Different methods are used to examine dynamics of charge carriers, atoms and molecules. Many different procedures have been developed spanning different time scales and photon energy ranges; some common methods are listed below.
