Total 3D imaging of phase objects using defocusing microscopy
Total 3D imaging of phase objects using defocusing microscopy

... Standard optical microscopy imaging of phase objects is generally obtained with microscopes operating in Phase Contrast or Nomarsky configurations1,2 . However, even for objects with uniform refractive index these techniques present difficulties for obtaining accurate full-field thickness profiles. ...

Analysis and Compensation of Four Wave Mixing Products in

... This article provides concepts of Four Wave Mixing which is a type of Nonlinearity. Due to the widespread growth in wireless communication, network operators are facing difficulty in accommodating the growing traffic. WDM appears to be a viable solution to such problems posed by the micro cellular s ...

... number of parameters, one of which is the shape of the sea surface. In this paper we address the dependence of the water-leaving radiance (Lw) on the wavelength and amplitude of a sinusoidal wave. The magnitude of Lw furthermore depends on the Inherent Optical Properties of the water column, the bot ...

Sagnac-loop phase shifter with polarization

... For half wave voltages on this order, the driving circuit becomes an essential part of the switch design (see Fig. 2). The main component of the driving circuit is a suitable MOSFET (BS131) located closely to the modulator crystal to keep parasitic capacitances small (C = 50 pF, of which ≈ 5 pF are ...

... In agreement with the numerical results of Figs 3 and 4, Eq. (8) shows that the probe pulse propagates without attenuation and with a group velocity determined by the intensity of the coupling laser beam, | c 0 |2. Remarkably, this group velocity, and therefore the time delay obtained while propaga ...

Comparison of Phase Diversity and Curvature Wavefront Sensing

... difference is that PD requires no a priori knowledge of the object and works well with extended objects, whereas CWFS requires that the object is known or is small in extent. The algorithms for the two methods are also quite distinct. Our PD wavefront estimates are found using optimal estimators suc ...

Geometrical Optics 101: Paraxial Ray Tracing
Geometrical Optics 101: Paraxial Ray Tracing

... Ray tracing is the primary method used by optical engineers to determine optical system performance. Ray tracing is the act of manually tracing a ray of light through a system by calculating the angle of refraction/reflection at each surface. This method is extremely useful in systems with many surf ...

Harold Hopkins (physicist)

Harold Horace Hopkins FRS (1918–1994) was a renowned British physicist. His Wave Theory of Aberrations, (published by Oxford University Press 1950), is central to all modern optical design and provides the mathematical analysis which enables the use of computers to create the wealth of high quality lenses available today. In addition to his theoretical work, his many inventions are in daily use throughout the world. These include zoom lenses, coherent fibre-optics and more recently the rod-lens endoscopes which 'opened the door' to modern key-hole surgery. He was the recipient of many of the world's most prestigious awards and was twice nominated for a Nobel Prize. His citation on receiving the Rumford Medal from the Royal Society in 1984 stated: ""In recognition of his many contributions to the theory and design of optical instruments, especially of a wide variety of important new medical instruments which have made a major contribution to clinical diagnosis and surgery.""
