... between the flux trough a closed surface and the divergence of the points enclosed by it. From our discussion above we found that the divergence was a measure of the sources and sinks of F and the flux was a measure of how much of F was going out trough a surface. Now, if we consider a volume V encl ...

Retarding Field Energy Analyzer Measurements of Ion Velocity
Retarding Field Energy Analyzer Measurements of Ion Velocity

... The principle operation of a retarding field analyzer is to select or reject either positive ions or negative electrons from the plasma using electrostatic fields. These fields are created by applying variable voltages between parallel fine mesh screens through which the particles travel. Particles ...

Electric Flux and Gauss's Law

... Solution We choose a spherical gaussian surface of radius r centered on the point charge, as shown in Figure 6. The electric field due to a positive point charge is directed radially outward by symmetry and is therefore normal to the surface at every point. Thus, E is parallel to dA at each point. T ...

Metadyne

A metadyne is a direct current electrical machine with two pairs of brushes. It can be used as an amplifier or rotary transformer. It is similar to a third brush dynamo but has additional regulator or ""variator"" windings. It is also similar to an amplidyne except that the latter has a compensating winding which fully counteracts the effect of the flux produced by the load current. The technical description is ""a cross-field direct current machine designed to utilize armature reaction"". A metadyne can convert a constant-voltage input into a constant-current, variable-voltage output.
