The Prevalence and Compositions of Small Planets The Harvard

... seasons of observations with HARPS-N at the Telescopio Nazionale Galileo and archival observations from Keck/HIRES, I found a mass of 4.02 ± 0.68 M⊕ and a density of 6.88 ± 1.18 g cm−3 . Comparing Kepler-93b to the other nine exoplanets smaller than 2.7 R⊕ with well-constrained parameters, I found t ...

Light manipulation with encoded plasmonic nanostructures Chenglong Zhao , Jiasen Zhang

... Having discussed the fundamentals of SPPs, now we will review the different aspects of light manipulation based on metallic nanostructures. For integrated plasmonic circuits, one indispensable plasmonic element is an efficient SPP source. There has been intensive effort in the plasmonic community to ...
Moiré and Fringe Projection Techniques
Moiré and Fringe Projection Techniques

... Since Lord Rayleigh first noticed the phenomena of moiré fringes, moiré techniques have been used for a number of testing applications. Righi (1887) first noticed that the relative displacement of two gratings could be determined by observing the movement of the moiré fringes. The next significant a ...

constellations - Richmond and Glen Allen Weather

... What is a constellation? Constellation is derived from the Latin "constellatus," set with stars; from "com-," together, and "stellare," to shine; stella, a star. A constellation is a group of stars, which might form a pattern or shape within a specific area of the sky and is often named after people ...

Numerical simulations involving the solution of Einstein’s equations became viable after the crucial breakthroughs of 2005 [49–51]. ... SHOEs with stacks of multiple volume gratings instead of thin gratings are commonly called stratified volume holographic optical elements (SVHOEs) or multilayer volume holographic gratings (MVHGs), which operate within the Bragg diffraction regime. Analysis of MVHG is based on the coupled-wave theor ...

... Adaptive optics will play a central role in all ELT projects. For diffraction limited imaging of point-like sources, the sensitivity grows with aperture as D4, so enormous gains can be realized by ELTs only with the use of AO. Equally important, ELTs can achieve resolution far greater than that of s ...

Astronomical spectroscopy

Astronomical spectroscopy is the study of astronomy using the techniques of spectroscopy to measure the spectrum of electromagnetic radiation, including visible light, which radiates from stars and other hot celestial objects. Spectroscopy can be used to derive many properties of distant stars and galaxies, such as their chemical composition, temperature, density, mass, distance, luminosity, and relative motion using Doppler shift measurements.
