Stimulated Raman Spectroscopy 1 1. Introduction
Stimulated Raman Spectroscopy 1 1. Introduction

... The photoacoustic (PA) effect5-8 is the process of acoustic wave generation in a sample resulting from the absorption of photons. This process was first invented by A. G. Bell, in 18806. Sunlight was focused onto a sample contained in a cell that was connected to a listening tube. When the sunlight ...

... We see objects when light from them enters our eyes. Apart from self-luminous objects, such as the sun, lamps, flames and television screens, all other objects are seen only because they reflect light. Hence the apparent shape, texture and colour of objects depend upon the light which falls on them, ...

The PSHE or the spin-orbit interaction arises from the noncolinear momentum and velocity (the change of trajectory) of light. ... VV Cephei eclipsing binary systems offer the most detailed method of studying mass loss from cool supergiant stars. The long-period of VV Cephei gives it a unique place among eclipsing binaries, but 20.4 years between eclipses make it really hard for scientists to study the system. Such a long inter ...

Astronomical spectroscopy

Astronomical spectroscopy is the study of astronomy using the techniques of spectroscopy to measure the spectrum of electromagnetic radiation, including visible light, which radiates from stars and other hot celestial objects. Spectroscopy can be used to derive many properties of distant stars and galaxies, such as their chemical composition, temperature, density, mass, distance, luminosity, and relative motion using Doppler shift measurements.
