Density-dependence in common tree species in a tropical dry forest

However, tree species seldom attain such high densities in mixed-species communities, particularly in speciesrich communities such as tropical forests, where most tree species are infrequent or rare. Are such species also regulated by density-dependent effects? It has been argued further that plants ...

Following a stand-initiating disturbance, such as the 1988 Yellowstone fires—or even a small-scale disturbance, such as the death and toppling of a large canopy tree—the response of woody and herbaceous plant species usually is quite vigorous. Recruitment Processes and Species Coexistence

... The regeneration niche was proposed by Grubb (1977) as a key factor for species coexistence. The concept of regeneration niche is related to the idea of ‘ safe site ’ for individual plants in terms of spatial variation. Tropical Africa

Although tropical Africa is most familiar in the West as depicted by its rain forests, this region of Africa is far more diverse. While the tropics are thought of as regions with warm to hot moist climates caused by latitude and the tropical rain belt, the geology of areas, particularly mountain chains, and geographical relation to continental and regional scale winds impact the overall parts of areas, also, making the tropics run from arid to humid in West Africa. The area has very serious overpopulation problems.
