Fabrication and Testing of an Aerosol Hydrocarbon Detector

... Fabrication and Testing of an Aerosol Hydrocarbon Detector Joseph D. Cipollina1, Manish Ranjan2, and Suresh Dhaniyala3 The amount of pollution in the air is growing daily. There is a need to characterize the pollutants and determine their effect on the environment and human health. This requires ins ...

... The apparatus is shown schematically in Fig. 1. A pulsed beam of electrons from a Van de Graaff electrostatic generator is injected into an electron linear accelerator (Linac). A fast thyratron pulser at the high-voltage end of the Van de Graaff generator causes the electron gun to emit electrons in ...

... First we must explain that bypass diodes, which are the current state-of-the-art in module construction, do not influence the reverse current in the module, but only reduce the effect of any shadowing which may occur. In order to prevent or to limit the reverse current into the modules, the followin ...

As the operational amplifier warms up, the offset voltage typically changes 4 μV due to the chip temperature increasing from 10°C to 20°C starting from the moment the power supplies are turned on. In the 10-s measurement interval, these te ...

Opto-isolator

In electronics, an opto-isolator, also called an optocoupler, photocoupler, or optical isolator, is a component that transfers electrical signals between two isolated circuits by using light. Opto-isolators prevent high voltages from affecting the system receiving the signal. Commercially available opto-isolators withstand input-to-output voltages up to 10 kV and voltage transients with speeds up to 10 kV/μs.A common type of opto-isolator consists of an LED and a phototransistor in the same opaque package. Other types of source-sensor combinations include LED-photodiode, LED-LASCR, and lamp-photoresistor pairs. Usually opto-isolators transfer digital (on-off) signals, but some techniques allow them to be used with analog signals.
