5.3.03-00 Hall effect in metals Physical structure of matter

... RH is the Hall coefficient. The type of charge carrier can be deduced from the sign of the Hall coefficient: a negative sign implies carriers with a negative charge (“normal Hall effect”), and a positive sign, carriers with a positive charge (“anomalous Hall effect”). In metals, both negative carrie ...

By limiting the choice of C I4 to a small number of finite values, this permits the introduction of design expertise hints directly into the problem formulation without making strong committments to the ultimate choice of the value of capacitor C 14 • Other examples of ...

Buck converter

A buck converter is a voltage step down and current step up converter. The simplest way to reduce the voltage of a DC supply is to use a linear regulator (such as a 7805), but linear regulators waste energy as they operate by dissipating excess power as heat. Buck converters, on the other hand, can be remarkably efficient (95% or higher for integrated circuits), making them useful for tasks such as converting the main voltage in a computer (12V in a desktop, 12-24V in a laptop) down to the 0.8-1.8V needed by the processor.
