MAX685 Dual-Output (Positive and Negative), DC-DC Converter for CCD and LCD General Description
MAX685 Dual-Output (Positive and Negative), DC-DC Converter for CCD and LCD General Description

... The MAX685 DC-DC converter accepts an input voltage between +2.7V and +5.5V and generates both a positive and negative voltage, using a single inductor (Figure 1). It alternates between acting as a step-up converter and as an inverting converter on a cycle-by-cycle basis. Both output voltages are in ...

... voltage. Initially, the value for R2 was chosen to be 25 kΩ, but this value resulted in R1 and R2 being close to 1 MΩ. Therefore, the R2 value was decreased and the R1 value was recalculated. A value near 18.2 kΩ for R2 also would have been acceptable. A zero frequency of 2 kHz then was chosen to de ...

Buck converter

A buck converter is a voltage step down and current step up converter. The simplest way to reduce the voltage of a DC supply is to use a linear regulator (such as a 7805), but linear regulators waste energy as they operate by dissipating excess power as heat. Buck converters, on the other hand, can be remarkably efficient (95% or higher for integrated circuits), making them useful for tasks such as converting the main voltage in a computer (12V in a desktop, 12-24V in a laptop) down to the 0.8-1.8V needed by the processor.
