MAX15040 High-Efficiency, 4A, Step-Down Regulator with General Description
MAX15040 High-Efficiency, 4A, Step-Down Regulator with General Description

... Integrated Switches in 2mm x 2mm Package The MAX15040 high-efficiency switching regulator delivers up to 4A load current at output voltages from 0.6V to (0.9 x VIN). The device operates from 2.4V to 3.6V, making it ideal for on-board point-of-load and postregulation applications. Total output-voltag ...

... external resistor RT, establishes a constant charging current into an external capacitor CT to provide a linear ramp voltage at terminal 7. The ramp voltage has a value that ranges from 0.6V to 3.5V and is used as the reference for the comparator in the device. The charging current is equal to (5-2V ...

... A third modification involves SB-220 amplifiers wired to operate on the 240V line. Should the mode switch partially fail or a primary winding open up in the HV transformer, excessive current is drawn through the filament transformer primary causing it to fail. To prevent this the black-green and bla ...

... Again, switch off power to the circuit. This last wiring task should be pretty straightforward (and fun?) if you’ve understood the previous “wireups.” What’s shown below are two three-way (SPDT) switches (just like on the test board) controlling a single lamp. This is a common wiring scheme when yo ...

Buck converter

A buck converter is a voltage step down and current step up converter. The simplest way to reduce the voltage of a DC supply is to use a linear regulator (such as a 7805), but linear regulators waste energy as they operate by dissipating excess power as heat. Buck converters, on the other hand, can be remarkably efficient (95% or higher for integrated circuits), making them useful for tasks such as converting the main voltage in a computer (12V in a desktop, 12-24V in a laptop) down to the 0.8-1.8V needed by the processor.
