... proportional to the voltage. You also learned that the current in a circuit is inversely proportional to the resistance. We proved this statement to be true, by applying Ohms Law. Before you can use Ohms Law any further, you must understand the type of circuit you are working with. You must know the ...

... In the case of LEDs, the conductor material is typically aluminum-gallium-arsenide (AlGaAs). In pure aluminum-gallium-arsenide, all of the atoms bond perfectly to their neighbors, leaving no free electrons (negatively-charged particles) to conduct electric current. In doped material, additional ato ...

... We see IGBT response for the first time in fig 4.6a. The 6±0.5V peak observed at the IGBT input in fig 4.5b therefore indicates a switch-on voltage, and the uncertainty is estimated by comparison with fig 4.6a and b and reflects the natural variability of the device. It is interesting to note (fig 4 ...

... The power supply that is designed for the project requires it to be able to output maximum 5A over a 1.2v to 32V output range. For this project requirement we will need 12V to be outputted. The key component to the power supply is the LM338K regulator. The unique feature of the LM338K is that it is ...

Buck converter

A buck converter is a voltage step down and current step up converter. The simplest way to reduce the voltage of a DC supply is to use a linear regulator (such as a 7805), but linear regulators waste energy as they operate by dissipating excess power as heat. Buck converters, on the other hand, can be remarkably efficient (95% or higher for integrated circuits), making them useful for tasks such as converting the main voltage in a computer (12V in a desktop, 12-24V in a laptop) down to the 0.8-1.8V needed by the processor.
