Circular Dichroism of Distorted Structure
Circular Dichroism of Distorted Structure

... The single Gyroid is a triply periodic negative curvature surface of BCC cubic symmetry, frequently occurring in nature, e. g. in the wing scales of the butterfly Callophrys rubi. Within there, it gives rise to structural colour (Simulation parameters are chosen to meet experimental data, to easily ...

Transition metal oxides ∓ Thermoelectric properties
Transition metal oxides ∓ Thermoelectric properties

... Thermoelectric (TE) materials are utilised for the conversion of a temperature gradient to a voltage gradient and vice versa. TE materials are widely regarded as the materials that can provide potential solutions for power generation and refrigeration technologies as well as their future advancement ...

Colloidal particles on quasicrystalline substrates

... Quasicrystals are non-periodic solids that nevertheless exhibit long-range positional and orientational order. They can possess rotational point symmetries, such as five- or tenfold rotational axes, that are not allowed in periodic crystals. Since their discovery [1] quasicrystals have caused much f ...

Doping effects on the structural and optical properties of GaN

... GaN is a III-V group semiconductor with a relatively large direct energy bandgap of 3.4 eV. Related compound AlN has 6.2 eV bandgap and InN – 0.64 eV (Fig. 1.1). Synthesizing ternary compounds AlGaN, AlInN, and InGaN provides a large flexibility in bandgap engineering: light emitters and detectors w ...

Density of states

In solid-state and condensed matter physics, the density of states (DOS) of a system describes the number of states per interval of energy at each energy level that are available to be occupied. Unlike isolated systems, like atoms or molecules in gas phase, the density distributions are not discrete like a spectral density but continuous. A high DOS at a specific energy level means that there are many states available for occupation. A DOS of zero means that no states can be occupied at that energy level. In general a DOS is an average over the space and time domains occupied by the system. Localvariations, most often due to distortions of the original system, are often called local density of states (LDOS). If the DOS of an undisturbedsystem is zero, the LDOS can locally be non-zero due to the presence of a local potential.
