Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation in the Tourism Sector
Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation in the Tourism Sector

... The spectacular growth of tourism provides both a challenge and an opportunity. The tourist community itself has responded to this challenge over the past few years and visibly stepped up its response to climate change. There is now a clear understanding that the industry can be part of the solution ...

... Climate change refers to a long-term shift in the Earth’s weather pattern as a result of both natural variation and human-induced factors. These shifts include alterations in the averages, extremes, timing, and spatial distribution of weather (Holdren, 2008). The past two decades have been the warme ...

The temperature regimes of dry-season

... Abstract: The ephemeral rivers in northern Australia break up into a series of waterholes during the long, dry summer season. These in-stream waterholes provide vital habitat for the survival of aquatic biota during this period. We describe how high-time-resolution (20 min) waterhole temperature mea ...

... Mountains are the water tower of the world (Immerzeel et al., 2010; Viviroli et al., 2007). They take important roles in the water supply of downstream areas. More than one sixth of the global population relies on water supplied by mountains (Barnett et al., 2005; Immerzeel et al., 2009). Meanwhile, ...

This limited range holds true in the MRB, where the mean e ...

The Socio-Economic Impact of Sea Level Rise in the Galveston Bay

... Sea level rise is an increase in the mean sea level of the ocean. Eustatic sea-level rise is a change in the global sea level brought about by alteration in the volume of the world-ocean due to changes between liquid and solid states, or changes in density or salinity. Climate modelers focus on esti ...

Climate change and poverty

In an ever-progressing world with an increasing demand for energy, it is difficult to avoid climate change and its impacts on societies both locally and globally. Climate change affects social development factors, such as, poverty, infrastructure, technology, security, and economics across the globe. Although climate change affects everything we see around us, the interrelation between climate change and social vulnerability and inequality is particularly evident in impoverished communities. In particular, impoverished communities experience reductions in safe drinking water as well as food security as a result of climate change (OECD 2013). These typically rural, isolated communities do not exhibit sufficient financial and technical capacities to manage the risks associated with climate change (climate risk) (Skoufias 2012). Energy development and policy alteration could adjust the severity of climate change impacts; this is being tested now, as renewable energy sources develop.
