... Biomass is the abbreviation for biological mass, the amount of living material provided by a given area of the earth's surface. Biomass energy may be obtained from forests, vegetation and animal refuse. In various forms, it is probably the major supplier of energy in Sri Lanka. 1.3 Utilisation (i) ...

... changeover switch is thrown to “run” position. This takes out the autotransformer from the circuit and puts the motor to full line voltage. Autotransformer starting has several advantages few of them are low power loss, low starting current and less radiated heat. For large machines (over 25 H.P.), ...

... VFDs, also known as inverters, adjustable speed drives, etc., are widely used because they save energy, especially in applications with varying loads. Because many centrifugal fans and pumps run continuously, their motors use less power if the input is modulated by VFDs. For example, a 20% reduction ...

How to reduce 3rd harmonics with ST6200C motor control software

... The experiment results in Table 2. indicates that universal motors produce the maximum 3rd harmonic currents at the middle power range. This makes it possible to reduce the harmonic current with the asymmetrical phase control method. According to Table 2., when a 1500W vacuum cleaner works at 780W, ...

Brushed DC electric motor

A brushed DC motor is an internally commutated electric motor designed to be run from a direct current power source. Brushed motors were the first commercially important application of electric power to driving mechanical energy, and DC distribution systems were used for more than 100 years to operate motors in commercial and industrial buildings. Brushed DC motors can be varied in speed by changing the operating voltage or the strength of the magnetic field. Depending on the connections of the field to the power supply, the speed and torque characteristics of a brushed motor can be altered to provide steady speed or speed inversely proportional to the mechanical load. Brushed motors continue to be used for electrical propulsion, cranes, paper machines and steel rolling mills. Since the brushes wear down and require replacement, brushless DC motors using power electronic devices have displaced brushed motors from many applications
