the magellanic clouds newsletter - Keele University Astrophysics

... Motivated by recent studies suggesting that the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC) could be significantly more massive than previously thought, we explore whether the approximation of an inertial Galactocentric reference frame is still valid in the presence of such a massive LMC. We find that previous est ...

Question 9: Starting from the ground state, press two and only two

... When an atom is by itself, in isolation, its orbitals behave differently than when in packed tightly with other atoms. For example, the energy levels of a single carbon atom are slightly different than a diamond. Similarly, hydrogen gas (H2) is a tiny bit different than a simple H atom. The differen ...

... As we have just seen, a number of Milky Way GMCs have produced young (less than 4 Myr old) stars at a rate that would lead to ∼ 30% of the GMC mass turning into stars, if the star formation went on for a GMC free-fall time. The GMC masses involved are of the order of 106 M , so star formation at th ...

Aquarius (constellation)

Aquarius is a constellation of the zodiac, situated between Capricornus and Pisces. Its name is Latin for ""water-carrier"" or ""cup-carrier"", and its symbol is 20px (Unicode ♒), a representation of water.Aquarius is one of the oldest of the recognized constellations along the zodiac (the sun's apparent path). It was one of the 48 constellations listed by the 2nd century AD astronomer Ptolemy, and it remains one of the 88 modern constellations. It is found in a region often called the Sea due to its profusion of constellations with watery associations such as Cetus the whale, Pisces the fish, and Eridanus the river.
