... can be transferred from one system to another as a result of temperature difference. The science that deals with the determination of the rates of such energy transfers is heat transfer. You may be wondering why we need to undertake a detailed study on heat transfer. After all, we can determine the ...

... Definition ofthe Temperature Vegetation Dryness Index (TVDI). TVDIfor a given pixel (NDVI,Ts) is estimated as the relation between the distance ofthe pixel from the wet edge (TVDI=O) and the spån ofTs in the Ts/NDVI-spacefor the given NDVI (the difference between Ts and the dry edge (TVDI=I) and Ts ...

... heating demand can be studied with a dynamic simulation. It is however possible to estimate roughly the effect of the insulation on the heating demand with simple stationary calculation techniques such as the heating degree day method, this gives an upper limit value on the possible energy saving. One school of thought (e.g. Munk and Wunsch, 1998) argues that the vertical mixing is crucial for the overturning as well as for its attendant heat transport; a contrary view (e.g. Toggweiler and Samuels, 1995) is that the ove ...

ASHRAE 55

ANSI/ASHRAE Standard 55 (Thermal Environmental Conditions for Human Occupancy) is a standard that provides minimum requirements for acceptable thermal indoor environments. It establishes the ranges of indoor environmental conditions that are acceptable to achieve thermal comfort for occupants. It was first published in 1966, and since 2004 has been updated periodically by an ASHRAE technical committee composed of industry experts. The most recent version of the standard was published in 2013.
