... consequence of statistics, some come promptly, others come later. This will be discussed in Section 5.3. It was left to Dirac[12] to combine the wave– and particle like aspects of light so that this description is capable of explaining all interference and particle phenomena of the EMF. We shall fol ...

... The smallest unit of information in a quantum computer is called a qubit, by analogy with the classical bit. A classical system of n bits is at any time in one of 2n states. Quantum mechanics tells us, however, that we must think of a quantum system of n qubits as having a distinct probability of “b ...

Realization of quantum error correction

... Although there has been extensive theoretical research in the area of quantum error correction, experimental work has been limited to protocol process verifications by means of liquid-state nuclear magnetic resonance. These experiments4–6 showed an increase in state fidelity after performing the uni ...

Fixing Vd , a pair of anyons of type Vd with movement confined to a surface trace out a topologically non-trivial braid formed by the particle’s world-lines. This braid then corresponds via the representation to an element U(d). These anyonic par ...

High-order impulse approximation for calculating pulsed-field recombination F. Robicheaux

... In the exponentials in Eq. ~2!, p z is the momentum operator in the z direction (2i ] / ] z) and z is the position in the z direction. There is a physical interpretation to each of the exponentials in Eq. ~2!. The exponential with the Dp z gives the change in the momentum due to the impulse from the ...

Orchestrated objective reduction

Orchestrated objective reduction (Orch-OR) is a hypothesis that consciousness in the brain originates from processes inside neurons, rather than from connections between neurons as in the conventional view. The mechanism is held to be a quantum physics process called objective reduction which is orchestrated by molecular structures called microtubules. The hypothesis, which was put forward in the early 1990s by theoretical physicist Roger Penrose and anaesthesiologist and psychologist Stuart Hameroff, has so far been rejected by the majority of cognitive scientists.
