... “... modern man is obsessed by the need to depersonalise (or impersonalise) all that he most admires. There are two reasons for this tendency. The first is analysis ... The second reason lies in our discovery of the sidereal world, so vast that it seems to do away with all proportion between our own ...

... Electrons confined in atoms and molecules are not moving in a classical sense; if they were they would radiate energy continuously, and atomic and molecular stability would be raised to the status of a scientific miracle. Atomic and molecular electrons are not here and later there, rather they are, ...

... 10900 Euclid Ave., Cleveland, Ohio, 44106 Quantum dots are nanometer scale semiconductor devices. Their small size leads to unique behavior different from that of macroscopic semiconductors. Our objective is to generalize the Thomas-Fermi method of atomic physics to understand the electronic structu ...

... The main task of AQC is to describe the very early stage in the evolution of the Universe. At this stage, the Universe was in a quantum state, which should be described by a wave function (complex valued and depends on some real parameters). But, QC is related to Planck scale phenomena - it is natur ...

Orchestrated objective reduction

Orchestrated objective reduction (Orch-OR) is a hypothesis that consciousness in the brain originates from processes inside neurons, rather than from connections between neurons as in the conventional view. The mechanism is held to be a quantum physics process called objective reduction which is orchestrated by molecular structures called microtubules. The hypothesis, which was put forward in the early 1990s by theoretical physicist Roger Penrose and anaesthesiologist and psychologist Stuart Hameroff, has so far been rejected by the majority of cognitive scientists.
