Co-Teaching Models
Planning Guide: Parallel Teaching
Directions:
Discuss and respond to the questions below. Answering these questions will prepare your team to
successfully implement the co-teaching model you identified and provide your team with the
information necessary to complete the Team-Based Cycle of Instruction Role Protocol for the lesson.
1. Describe the topic that will be taught and the amount of time you will need to teach this
content.

2. Identify the students in each group, ensuring that both groups are heterogeneous.

3. Describe how you will ensure that each teacher has a distinct teaching area and how you will
arrange the classroom to facilitate this, if necessary.
Split students @ either end. Give students 1 minute to move. Call names after giving directions, Rearrange desks in circles.
4. Describe how will you ensure that students receive essentially the same instruction within the
same amount of time (will you create a mini lesson plan, presentation notes, script, etc?)
“Caesar Act 1 and 2.1 Discussion Questions – Educator’s Guide” – Question Guide with possible OnTarget student responses as well as possible follow-up questions.
5. How will you maintain appropriate noise level while conducting Parallel Teaching? How will you
communicate expectations to students?
Remind students of group norms and write them down, posted in a middle area. Encourage respect for
other groups. Keep students directed to textual, academic discussion. Award tickets for quiet students
and students who participate in academic discussion.
