1) Titanium tetrachloride is an important industrial chemical. It is used for preparing the
TiO2, the white pigment in paints and paper. It can be made using an impure titanium
ore(often impure TiO2) with carbon and chlorine.
TiO2(s) + 2 Cl2(g) + C(s)
TiCl4(l) + CO2(g)
Using 125 g each of C and Cl2, but plenty of TiO2 –containing ore, which is the limiting
reagent in this reaction?
What mass of TiCl4 can be produced?
If only 100. g of TiCl4 is produced, what is the percent yield?

3) A 0.1000 M solution of aluminum nitrate (Al(NO3)3) is needed for an experiment in
the general chemistry laboratory and you are the student working in the stockroom. You
need to make 5.000 liters of the solution. What mass of aluminum nitrate will you need
to measure out for this solution.
The experiment that the students are doing requires them to use a 25.00 mL aliquot of the
solution. How many moles of NO3- are in the aliquot? How many Al3+ atoms are in the
aliquot?
