Guided Cornell Notes: Circulatory System (AKA The “Delivery” System)
1. What are the
four chambers in
the heart?
The main function of the Circulatory (Cardiovascular) System is transporting
oxygen
, nutrients
and other necessary things to and from every cell in
the body.
Three Main Structures in the Circulatory System:
1. Heart,
2. blood,
3. blood vessels
The heart:
1. acts like a pump
2. Has four chambers and valves that
connect the chambers.
Left auricle, left ventricle
Right auricle, right ventricle
3. made of cardiac
muscle
Another word for auricle is atrium
Blood Functions:
1. Carries oxygen
and nutrients
to cells and takes waste
products away from cells
2. Help fight infection
Blood Structures:
1. Plasma: liquid part of blood, mostly made up of water
Nutrients, minerals, oxygen and wastes
2. Blood Cells: Red
are dissolved in plasma.

Blood Vessels: Three kinds
1. arteries take blood away from the heart (to the body or to the lungs)
2. veins bring blood to the heart (from the body or from the lungs)
3. capillaries are the smallest blood vessels that reach every cell in the body
and connect the arteries to the veins.
