Blog #2
1) Answer the problem to the best of your ability, following the clues in order.
2) Show ALL the work that you do to solve the problem.
3) Jing the problem and questions on the next page into your post. (If you complete
your work in OneNote, then please see the portal for an easy way to copy and
paste your work to your blog post.)
4) Your goal is to express your thinking clearly and accurately to an audience wider
than yourself, so make your work understandable and your final answer apparent.
5) Your blog entry must be a POST, not a page.
6) Remember to check the category pre-algebra.
7) This blog entry is worth 18 points. See the rubric at the end.
8) The blog is due by Wednesday, October 27.
Pre-Algebra Blog #2
Treasure Hunt
Solving a math problem sometimes involves several steps. This process has been
compared to a treasure hunt. This gave me the idea of creating a treasure hunt for this
problem. If there are words you don’t know, you should look up their meanings
using the Internet or another resource.
HINT: The treasure you will find at the end of this hunt is a palindrome. To
solve this puzzle, you will need to use the answers in order. If you make an error at an
early stage, your final answer will not be correct. So be careful!!
*****Be sure you show your work for each clue as you go along.

4.
Start with the first double-digit palindrome in the Fibonacci sequence. 55
Add your answer to the square root of 625. 25+55=80
Multiply your answer by the number of days in October. 80x31=2480
Divide your answer by the first prime number greater than 50.
2480÷53=46r42
5. Keep only the remainder (which must be a whole number). 42
6. Multiply the remainder by the number of days in a week. 42x7=294
7. Multiply your answer by the product of the smallest two prime numbers.
294x6=1,764
Three questions to answer:
1. What is the smallest number you can add to your answer and create a palindrome?
7-1,771
2. What is the palindrome will you have created?
1,771
3. What resources did you use to help you with the questions?
