Author:
-President Harry Truman
Place:
-I can predict that the USSR
would get angry from the
Truman Doctrine because
they would most likely
rather take control of Greece
and Turkey to make them
communist, but instead the
US is deciding.
-United States of America
-Has helping countries back
then and throughout our
history caused the debt that
we have now since we gave
out so much?
Audience:
Prior Knowledge:
-Truman was the vice president of F.D.R’s 4th and last term
-When F.D.R died Truman became president
-The Truman Doctrine was his way of helping countries so that they would
not fall to communism
-Truman did not like Stalin and the Soviet’s plans
-The United States Congress
Reason:
-Inform Congress on his plan, the Truman Doctrine
-I believe that the US
Congress was fine with
these plans because the US
was focused on containing
communism, keeping it out,
and keeping it away from
the United States
The Main Point:
-Truman wants the Congress to supply aid to Greece and Turkey. He states
that they need our help and we need to supply it so they can make choices
on their own and don’t become overcome with communism
Significance:
-This is significant because throughout the whole speech he does not come
out and say it, but talks about the evils that could take over these countries,
which is the USSR. This was during the Cold War so Truman is targeting
communist beliefs and making sure that the US keeps the rest of the world
capitalist to the best of their abilities.
Analysis: President Truman wants the US Congress to supply aid to Greece and Turkey so that they can
recover and set up a stable system for themselves, which Truman hopes and believes it will be capitalist.
Truman’s goal is to help any country threatened by communism so that they don’t fall to communism as the
rest of the world may follow.
