WHAT IS THE BIOSPHERE?
The biosphere is the portion of the Earth that
supports life. The biosphere spans from a few
miles up in the atmosphere to the deepest part
of the oceans, and also seems to extend an
indefinite distance underground.
Every organism in the biosphere depends on its
environment for survival. The environment
supplies energy and material for growth and
repair. For example, plants use sunlight, water,
carbon dioxide, and inorganic nutrients for
photosynthesis.

ECOLOGICAL ORGANIZATION PYRAMID
1) Individual – one organism, a single living thing.
2) Population – a group of interbreeding organisms (a
single species) living in the same area.
3) Community – all the organisms, of all types, living in
the same area.
4) Ecosystem – all the organisms living in the same
area AND their nonliving environment.
5) Biome – one of several major types of ecosystems.
6) Biosphere – the ecosystem of planet Earth.
ENERGY PYRAMID
PRODUCERS  plants = trees, grass, flowers,
fruits/vegetables
FIRST-ORDER CONSUMERS  herbivores = deer,
rabbit, insects, bird, zebra, bison, cow
SECOND-ORDER CONSUMERS 
carnivores/omnivores = snake, fox, bobcat, bear,
fish, frog
THIRD-ORDER CONSUMERS  carnivores = lion,
hawk, shark, wolves, owl, alligator (predators)
SCAVENGERS = vulture, coyote, crab, worms
DECOMPOSERS = fungi (mushroom), bacteria
