Homework 1
Due Monday, April 8, 2012 at 5 p.m., either electronically or on paper.
1. What is the difference between a star, a planet, a moon and an asteroid?
2. What’s the difference between a meteor, a meteorite and a meteoroid?
3. Compare the size of an electron to the size of the universe. By what factor is the
universe bigger? Approximately how many orders of magnitude is this?
4. What is the name of the brightest comet in the sky right now? Is it getting brighter or
dimmer as April continues?
5. What two planets are visible in the current night sky, and where should you look for
them (a general compass direction is fine)?
