there are 5 main points to
the hindu belief system.
1. BRAHMAN
2. POLYTHEISM
(multiple gods or dieties)
3. DHARMA
4. KARMA
5.SAMSARA
BRAHMAN is the name for a supreme
(great) power, or a divine (heavenly) force
that is greater than any god.
Everything, including humans souls, is part
of BRAHMAN. A soul is considered like a
drop of water in the ocean.
Hindu’s believe brahman is constantly
creating, destroying, and recreating the
universe. It is a never ending cycle.
Hinduism is a POLYTHEISTIC religion.
They [Hindus] believe in many different
gods.
Each god represents a power or quality of
BRAHMAN.
The most important gods are Brahma,
Vishnu, and Shiva.
Brahma creates, Vishnu preserves, Shiva
destroys.

DHARMA is an important idea in Hinduism.
It stands for law, obligation (responsibility),
and duty.
In order to follow one’s dharma you must
perform your duties and live a just and fair
life.
Hindu’s believe that if everyone followed the
dharma of their social class, then the
society would be in harmony.
Hindus believe that all life is connected, so
part of dharma involves avoiding harming
any living thing. Nonviolence is part of
Hinduism.
In Hinduism, the law of KARMA governs
what happens to people’s soul after death.
Hindus believe that the soul has many
different lives. When a person dies then
their soul is reborn into a different body.
This is the idea of reincarnation.
Karma is made up of the good or evil that a
person did in their past lives.
Karma helps explain the social status of
Hindus. If you were a higher class than you
probably did good things in past lives. If
you were a lower class than you probably
did bad things.

Hindus believe in the idea of SAMSARA.
This means a cycle of birth, death, and
rebirth.
Samsara, (the cycle) ends when the soul is
united with Brahman, the supreme force in
the universe. It could take many lifetimes
to end the cycle.
The way you end the cycle is by balancing
your karma with good actions, follow your
dharma by behaving correctly, and
worship the gods faithfully.
