Marketing Coordinator – Utopia 2016
The Cultural Institute at King’s College London is looking for a resourceful freelancer to
support the comms and marketing of Utopia 2016, with specific attention to the Paths to
Utopia exhibition due to take place from 1 July-30 September 2016.
The role will incorporate gathering content for live broadcasts, delivering an inventive
social media campaign, coordinating eflyers, website content and more, and working with
our partners at Somerset House and Courtauld Gallery.
The role is two days a week from 14 March-30 September 2016, at £20,800 pro rata
(£80/day).

The role will report to the Creative Producer for Utopia 2016 at the Cultural Institute and
the Marketing and Communications Manager.

Main activities and responsibilities
• Coordinate a list of local hotels, schools, universities, local businesses and groups,
maintain relationships with each and proactively research new contacts.
• Liaise with external websites to ensure they have accurate information on
upcoming Utopia 2016 events.
• Work closely with local visitor centres, tourist boards and agencies to tap into the
crucial travel trade, and help to increase the number of visitors to Utopia 2016
events.
• Help to further grow the social media reach and impact of the Cultural Institute and
Utopia 2016 by working with the KCL, Somerset House and Courtauld teams, to
generate engaging and relevant content for multiple projects and across various
platforms. This includes gathering photographs of events and exhibitions.
• Monitor social media mentions of Utopia 2016 and its events, and respond to
enquiries in a timely manner, in the house style.
• Assist with social media reporting.
• Coordinate marketing plans for each Paths to Utopia group; eflyers, social media
and other collateral.
• Assist with the coordination of the Paths to Utopia talks/seminars/workshops –
including gathering content for online broadcasts.
• Assist market research activity by inputting visitor feedback and collating the
results.

Be trained on the Utopia 2016 website and assist the team to make changes and
keep information accurate and up-to-date.
Coordinate the archive of marketing materials, ensuring that it is well maintained
and up-to-date.
Proof-read marketing materials including, brochures, newsletters and web pages.
Carry out any other reasonable duties in line with the post which may be required.

Qualifications
 Graduate or graduate calibre
Skills/Abilities
• Excellent organisational skills, with meticulous attention to detail
• Strong administrative skills
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• IT literacy with demonstrable proficiency in MS Word, Excel and Photoshop
• Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
• Ability to work under minimal supervision
• Ability to work well under pressure ensuring deadlines are met
• Ability to work both using own initiative and as a team player
Knowledge
• Good knowledge and understanding of arts / cultural / entertainment sectors
• Knowledge and interest in marketing is essential
• Interest and understanding of the latest developments in social media (particularly
Facebook, Twitter and Instagram)
Experience
• Previous marketing experience (at least one year) would be desirable
• Previous experience of working in the arts / cultural / entertainment sectors would
be desirable
