 Fitness
measures a person’s
suitability to perform a certain
task, for example you can be fit to
drive, fit to work, fit to look after
children and so on. In the
sporting context we think of
fitness as a person’s physiological
capability to perform a specific
physical task or set of tasks.
 Aerobic
fitness is also
called cardio-respiratory
fitness or endurance and is
your body’s capacity to
work continuously for long
periods of time
 Often
when people talk about
‘being fit’ they are referring to
their level of aerobic fitness.
 There are many health benefits
for people who are aerobically
fit. This is a factor in coronary
heart disease, hypertension
and weight loss
 The
force that muscles or a
group of muscles can exert in
one max exertion or
contraction.
 The
ability of a muscle or
group of muscles to contract
repeatedly over a period of
time
 Flexibility
is the range of
movement that muscles,
tendons and ligaments allow
at a joint. It is specific to each
joint and spots require
different degrees of flexibility
 Looks
at the percentage of fat,
bone, muscle etc in your body
and gives a view of your
overall health status,
particularly the ratio of fat to
lean muscle
Ectomorphs – tend to be tall and thin
 Mesomorphs – are muscular
 Endomorphs – tend to be short with
more body fat

