When a communicable disease is diagnosed and confirmed in a school by a health
care provider, depending on the disease, there should be a high degree of suspicion
that others may also have it.
The superintendent and local health department should be notified, depending on the
disease.
The school district nurse should be alerted and, depending on the type of infectious
disease, health screenings should take place.
Training should be provided to the building staff regarding the disease.
Staff should follow recommendations from the health department in order to contain
and control the spread of the disease.
Teachers should develop and conduct health lessons pertaining to the disease.
Information should be compiled and sent to parents.
A statement from the health department or doctor is needed before the infected child
returns to school. (See Administrative Regulation No. 3414 for specific diseases.)
